Allegations of improper conduct: Kosky & Hobsons Bay Council

25/06/2009

Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- My adjournment matter today is addressed to the Minister for Local Government. The minister has received a copy of a submission from Cameron McCurley to Ombudsman Victoria. The submission alleges improper conduct and undue influence from the Honourable Lynne Kosky on the Hobsons Bay City Council.

The allegations include that Ms Kosky's electorate officers and her electorate office were used inappropriately during the 2008 Hobsons Bay City Council election. It alleges that two of Ms Kosky's electorate officers were candidates in the election while a third managed their campaigns, along with two other ALP candidates.

Given the recent findings of an Ombudsman Victoria report on the undue influence of members of Parliament in the affairs of Brimbank City Council, the minister should take seriously the concerns of Cameron McCurley. I ask that the minister investigate the allegations made in the submission and make public the findings of the investigation.
