Wearing red today in support of government schools and teachers

I have been wearing red today in support of government schools and teachers. Victoria continues to spend the least per student on government schools of all states and territories. A survey of school principals released by the AEU today reveals that 71 per cent of Victorian public schools do not have the appropriate resources to deliver quality programs and 86% of principals said their school needed an equipment upgrade and nearly 93% of principals report that teacher workloads have increased over the last three years. After years of underfunding by both state and federal governments, government schools are now getting some long overdue attention, but clearly much more still needs to be done. We should not have 'disadvantaged' schools in the education system. All Victorian students should have equal access to quality education regardless of where they live or their family income.
