The deal announced today on live music licence conditions is a first step, not a solution, the Greens say.
Greens MLC Greg Barber said " The licence conditions that killed the Tote were put on at the discretion of the Commissioner and could have been removed at the stroke of a pen. There are many, many other venues with the same conditions, and lots of pubs that won't run any kind of music at all because it's too much of a hassle."

The Greens Victoria have learned that footage taken in a controversial Brown Mountain logging coupe has been confirmed by independent fauna experts to be of a long-footed potoroo, previously denied to be present by Department of Sustainability and Environment biodiversity assessors.
“The minister must intervene and stop logging on the site permanently”, Greg Barber said today.

The Select Committee on Train Services established by The Greens has had a high profile recently. The 7 member committee was established to inquire into the factors leading to and causes of failures in the provision of metropolitan and V/Line train services. Submissions are now closed and the first round of hearings completed Tuesday 21 July 2009.
Greens set up Inquiry into train failures
The Victorian Upper House last night supported a Greens motion to set up an inquiry into the reasons for failures in the provision of metropolitan and V/Line train services.
Greens transport spokesperson Greg Barber MLC said: "The ongoing high level of delayed trains and the catastrophic collapse of services during the January heatwave show a system in ongoing decline. We need to stop the tender until the causes of the crisis are understood and way forward found."
