ANZAC Day: More liquor licensing problems?
Anzac Day is obviously a time to reflect and pay respect to the men and women who have sacrificed so much in times of war, and their efforts must be treated with absolute respect.
Camera failure shows truck ramps are essential
My adjournment matter tonight is for the Minister for Roads and Ports. I refer the minister to media coverage over the last week regarding the height-activated cameras that were supposed to catch truck drivers breaking the night-time and weekend truck curfew on Francis Street in Yarraville.
Give us back access to the Maribyrnong!
My adjournment matter tonight is for the Minister for Roads and Ports.
I have been contacted by a Yarraville resident asking about public access to the Maribyrnong River in Yarraville. He asked me to find out why residents of Yarraville have lost access to their waterfront at the same time as people in other parts of Melbourne have had waterfront access improved. Like many other residents of Melbourne, he likes to walk his dog along that area every night.
Community disrespect common practice from Government
I do not have a media adviser, I know what my staff do, I know what they put out in my name and I check their work. Admittedly, I am not a minister and I do not have the workload of a minister, but I find it astounding that a minister would not know what his staff have been doing.
Mark International Women's Day by guaranteeing the future of the Brimbank Family Violence Unit
International Women's Day, marked on 8 March every year, is a day celebrated globally. It acknowledges women's economic, political and social achievements and continuing challenges.
More respite care needed in the western suburbs
My matter tonight is for the Minister for Community Services. Last week I received a phone call from a Footscray resident, Lidia Cammarano. Lidia has a severely intellectually and physically disabled son, Steven. Steven is 31 and he needs total care, routine and a highly predictable environment.
Assessment and Referral Court
The Greens are generally supportive of this legislation as we believe separate court lists have merit; in the case of the Koori courts and drug courts, they have proved to be extremely successful.
10c Deposits: it's time
This morning the Boomerang Alliance, Friends of the Earth and environment groups launched their green jobs package on the steps of Parliament House. It was great to be at the rally because I was with a community that wants to make real change. It detailed a range of measures that will create 20 000 jobs. Environment groups have learnt to speak the language that government understands.
Government and opposition neglect the West
I thank Mr Leane for expressing his love of the west. Having lived there for 25 years, there have been times when I have doubted the love of governments of either side for the western suburbs.
Mr Leane -- You know I have love for you.
Ms HARTLAND -- Let us not declare that in the chamber. My husband might be listening. I am in deep trouble now...
Train stations need escalators or ramps
My adjournment matter tonight is for the Minister for Public Transport. I would like to raise some serious and urgent concerns about railway stations being modernised in a way which is distressing and potentially harmful to members of our community.
Dying with Dignity
My adjournment matter tonight is for the Attorney-General, Mr Hulls. The Age has run a series of articles about people taking illegal, lethal veterinary drugs in order to end their suffering of terminal illness.
Victoria University Bill 2009 - Colleen's speech and amendment
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- I would very much like to thank Mr Hall for the detailed way in which he has gone through these bills, so I will not cover much of that detail.
Fund and resource Brimbank Family Violence Unit
My adjournment matter is for the attention of the Minister the Police and Emergency Services, Mr Cameron, and it relates to the closure of a vital service in the city of Brimbank.
Taking action against violence in the western suburbs
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- On Saturday, 2 January, Nitin Garg was murdered in Cruickshank Park, Yarraville.
Reserves - Whitten Oval, JR Parsons, Altona Cemetery
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- This bill revokes a number of reserves in different parts of Melbourne. I will be moving an amendment in relation to the Whitten Oval reserve, and my colleague Ms Pennicuik will be moving an amendment in relation to the Caulfield Racecourse. These amendments will require some detailed explanation.
National Health Practitioner Legislation - Part 2
*** Colleen's speech continued from the previous evening
National Health Practitioner Legislation - Part 1
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- I would like to start by thanking the Department of Health for the briefings I received in the past week and for the fact that we have been able to go back several times to continually clarify issues. That has been greatly appreciated.
Minister responds to Colleen's MICA question
The Minister for Health replies to Colleen's "adjournment" question from 3 September about MICA
Ambulance services: mobile intensive care units
REPLY:
An Enterprise Bargaining Agreement has been considered and endorsed by paramedics across Victoria.
Bushfires & "Neighbourhood Safer Places"
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- The Emergency Services Legislation Amendment Bill is an important piece of legislation. As previous speakers have outlined, this bill is a step towards fulfilling the government's commitment to implementing 51 recommendations from the bushfires royal commission's first interim report which was tabled in the Parliament on 17 August.
Global Atheism Conference Funding
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- My adjournment matter is addressed to the Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs. It concerns discrimination by the minister against an organisation on account of its religious status. The 2010 Global Atheist Convention will be held in March at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
White Ribbon Day
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- Last week I attended a function organised by the City of Wyndham for White Ribbon Day. There were a large range of speakers from VicHealth, the Australian Football League and Victoria Police, but the speech that touched me the most was from Shane Bourke, who is the mayor of Wyndham and for whom I have a high regard.
Box Hill Hospital: Neglected by both Major Parties
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- I rise to make a few, brief comments on the motion. The Greens will be supporting this motion, and I thank Mr Atkinson for putting it forward. However, there are a number of concerns that I want to address.
Atheist Foundation of Australia Denied Funding
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- My adjournment matter is addressed to the Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs. It concerns discrimination by the minister against an organisation on account of its religious status. The 2010 Global Atheist Convention will be held in March at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Seeking Clarity on Tunnel's Hell Mouth
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- My adjournment matter is for Minister Pallas, the Minister for Roads and Ports.
Deakin, LaTrobe, Monash and University of Melbourne Bills
Ms HARTLAND (Western Metropolitan) -- I will speak only very briefly to these bills; Mr Hall did such an extraordinary job explaining all the intricacies that I do not need to go back over them. The Greens will be supporting these bills.

Australia Day
On Australia Day I attended two citizenship ceremonies at Sunshine and Moonee Valley. Citizenship ceremonies for me are one of the best things I get to do as a Member of Parliament because I have the opportunity to welcome people who have made the huge decision to leave their country of birth to make Australia home.
Growth Area Boundaries, Grasslands and the Taxed Out Group
With Victoria’s population continuing to grow at an alarming rate, earlier this year the Brumby Government announced the extension of the urban growth boundaries. Areas under consideration for expansion include: Melbourne’s west around Caro
