Update on the Parliamentary Train Failure Inquiry

The Select Committee on Train Services established by The Greens has had a high profile recently.  The 7 member committee was established to inquire into the factors leading to and causes of failures in the provision of metropolitan and V/Line train services.  Submissions are now closed and the first round of hearings completed Tuesday 21 July 2009.

As Greg Barber has discovered there were 12,733 train failures over the 6 months to end of February 2009.  “The 'good' news out of all that is not one of these was unanticipated or unmanageable.  We just need a transport minister who’s committed to fixing the system”, Greg Barber said following the first round of hearings.

The inquiry will continue for the rest of the year and will call more witnesses who will help fill out the picture.  Watch this space for transcripts of the first round of hearings and dates for future hearings.
